Scarlet Street is a 1945 noir tragedy film directed by Fritz Lang. The principal actors Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett and Dan Duryea had earlier appeared together in The Woman in the Window (1944), also directed by Fritz Lang. Local authorities in three cities banned Scarlet Street early in 1946 because of its dark plot and themes. A simple, haunting musical phrase whistled offscreen tells us that a young girl will be killed. “Who Is the Murderer?” pleads a nearby placard as serial killer Hans Beckert (Peter Lorre) closes in on little Elsie Beckmann . . . In his harrowing masterwork M, Fritz Lang merges trenchant social commentary with chilling suspense, creating a panorama of private madness and public hysteria that to this day remains the blueprint for the psychological thriller.

Locked away in an asylum for a decade and teetering between life and death, the criminal mastermind Doctor Mabuse (Rudolf Klein-Rogge) has scribbled his last will and testament: a manifesto establishing a future empire of crime. When the document’s nefarious writings start leading to terrifying parallels in reality, it’s up to Berlin’s star detective, Inspector Lohmann (Otto Wernicke, reprising his role from M ) to connect the most fragmented, maddening clues in a case unlike any other....

The Blue Gardenia is a 1953 film noir crime film directed by Fritz Lang and based on a novella by Vera Caspary, starring Anne Baxter, Richard Conte, Raymond Burr and Ann Sothern. The Blue Gardenia - a cynical take on press coverage of a sensational murder case - was the first installment of Lang's "newspaper noir" movie trio, being followed in 1956 by both While the City Sleeps and Beyond a Reasonable Doubt. The director of cinematography for The Blue Gardenia was Nicholas Musuraca....

German director Fritz Lang is best known for the highly influential films from relatively early in his career, especially Metropolis (1927) and M (1931). But he also had a brief Hollywood heyday during the mid 1940s, when he made some of his best films. Scarlet Street has been claimed by film noir. This attribution is understandable. The lighting is dark, with heavy use of shadows. The characters are all shady as well. Kitty is certainly a femme fatale, although hints are dropped that she is an...

This is a copy of the subtitled version of Fritz Lang's "Scarlet Street" published in youtube.com/watch?v=tHv3Jico_x4 . It is republished here because some people are barred from accessing YouTube. As the unsubtitled copy of the same film in archive.org/details/ScarletStreet is published with a dedication to the Public Domain, I am using the same dedication here.

This is the novel version of the classic silent sci-fi movie Metropolis by Fritz Lang. Students of the film know that it was severely cut and edited after its first release, and further cut during its US release. There have been several attempts to restore the film over the decades, but it has never been brought back to its original version. This novel has several scenes that are not in any video version currently available. It may be that they were never filmed or they are just forever lost....
